How To Mix Interior Design Styles
Tips & Tricks
Can you identify the design styles present in each of these photos?
Good Morning! Can you believe summer is almost over? Last week, we had some cloudy days in Vancouver (albeit with still warmish weather), but it’s got me excited for autumn.
Today, we are going over how to mix interior design styles so that you can hopefully create your own. How To Mix Interior Design Styles
This space combines Traditional and Eclectic design styles. Traditional accents are seen in the armchair shapes, pleated lampshades, and architectural features like the fireplace. Mixing textures, patterns, and modern artwork falls under the eclectic design style.
When it comes to mixing interior design styles to find the perfect combination that represents you, I like to use the 80/20 Rule. I have not one, but two shortforms on this rule which I have linked. Today, I will explain the design principle and then provide a few examples to illustrate how it works. I should also state that while this is called the 80/20 Rule, you can choose to treat it as more of a guideline because you do you, but…you know, maybe reconsider.
But before I get into it, another video you might find helpful while reading through this newsletter is my 50 Design Styles in 25 Minutes video. That way, you can see many different design styles at once and see which ones speak to you. This is excellent information to have so you know what keywords to search for when looking up inspo or products. It might also help you understand some of the examples I use a bit better.
